Fashion week \u2013 Winter 2016<\/em>\u00a0is a seasonal event which took place on December 19 \u2013 20, 2016, at the\u00a0OKC\u00a0Palach<\/em>\u00a0in Rijeka. The\u00a0Winter 2016<\/em>\u00a0pilot edition presented us with a two day showcase of the\u00a0Sweet & Salt<\/em>\u00a0Flagship themes, concepts and theoretical background of urban reinvention planning of\u00a0the\u00a0city territory where the river meets the sea<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The lead project host of the\u00a0Sweet & Salt<\/em>\u00a0flagship is the Center for Advanced Studies \u2013 South East Europe at the University of Rijeka. The flagship\u00a0<\/em>aims to\u00a0produce multiple projects that will honor the memory of lost spaces, while inspiring modern urban planning within the program of\u00a0Rijeka 2020 \u2013 European Capital of Culture<\/em>. The 6 year flagship will engage citizens in critical debates about their urban environment, stimulated by artistic interventions.<\/p>\n

The first day of the\u00a0Winter 2016<\/em>\u00a0edition introduced the inspiring works of 9th semester architecture students (Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb) that were presented in\u00a0an exhibition at the\u00a0Galerija\u00a0SKC<\/em>\u00a0and thoroughly discussed in five\u00a0panels together with international experts in the fields of architecture and urban planning, and followed by critical debates with their mentors and professors. The\u00a0first day ended with the\u00a0Urban Update \/ Upgrade<\/em>\u00a0public debate which hosted esteemed architects and art historians Simon Hartmann, Maroje Mrdulja\u0161, Dinko Pera\u010di\u0107 and Luka Skansi.<\/p>\n

The program of the second day of the\u00a0Winter 2016<\/em>\u00a0edition was open to the public and included another opening of the\u00a0art exhibition\u00a0Vi ste sada ovdje<\/em>\u00a0(You Are Now Here<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>by Vuk \u0106osi\u0107)<\/em>\u00a0presenting historical geographic maps of Rijeka and the region at the\u00a0Galerija Plavi salon<\/em>\u00a0at the Rijeka City Hall Saloon. The exhibition will be open until the end of January 2017 (every Wednesday from 4.00 to 6.00 pm at the address\u00a0Korzo 16<\/em>).\u00a0Winter 2016<\/em>\u00a0program\u00a0continued with\u00a0multiple panels on the current (real) state of the cities in the region and the future (speculative) realities. The\u00a0Rijeka ECOC 2020 \u2013 Amplifier of Urban Reinvention<\/em>\u00a0public debate hosted Emina Vi\u0161nji\u0107 (Director of Rijeka ECOC 2020), Vojko Obersnel (Mayor of Rijeka), Neil Peterson (Liverpool ECOC 2008), Janez Ko\u017eelj (Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana) and\u00a0with\u00a0moderation by\u00a0Vuk \u0106osi\u0107 (Rijeka ECOC 2020) provided a chance to map both the inspiring possibilities and challenges\u00a0of urban reinvention\u00a0which the\u00a0Rijeka 2020 \u2013 European Capital of Culture<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>project\u00a0will ensure.<\/p>\n
