With this decision, the City of Rijeka has been officially pronounced the European Capital of Culture 2020.<\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4059\" src=\"https:\/\/rijeka2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ri2020_2-e1458728208499.jpg\" alt=\"ri2020_2\" width=\"1900\" height=\"1149\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This decision has been <strong>anticipated since<\/strong> March when Steve Green, the president of the Selection Panel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rijeka2020.eu\/rijeka-european-capital-of-culture-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced at a press conference<\/a> that Rijeka should bear the title of European Capital of Culture. <a href=\"https:\/\/rijeka2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/croatia-report_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">The Selection Panel&#8217;s Final Report<\/a> elaborating its decision was released in April .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rijeka2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/28-9.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">The decision<\/a> to name Rijeka the European Capital of Culture based on the Selection Panel&#8217;s recommendation was included on the <a href=\"https:\/\/vlada.gov.hr\/sjednice\/28-sjednica-vlade-republike-hrvatske-19178\/19178\" target=\"_blank\">Government&#8217;s agenda today<\/a>. Rijeka thus became the first Croatian city to hold this prestigious title.
