{"id":33056,"date":"2019-10-14T09:19:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T07:19:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rijeka2020.eu\/?p=33056"},"modified":"2019-10-23T09:24:26","modified_gmt":"2019-10-23T07:24:26","slug":"time-slip-and-imminence-art-installations-in-the-public-space-presented","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/en\/time-slip-and-imminence-art-installations-in-the-public-space-presented\/","title":{"rendered":"Time slip and Imminence &#8211; Art Installations in the Public Space Presented"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<strong>Time slip<\/strong>\u00a0is a light installation\u00a0<strong>on the bridge across the Rje\u010dina river<\/strong>, where the artists\u2019 guiding principle was to modernise the traditional place of gathering of the young, and the hub of Rijeka\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis installation was designed just for Rijeka. The artists have been exploring the city, looking for locations and interactions they found interesting, and finally they have chosen the popular Kont (Titov trg 1), a place well known and highly frequented within the story of Rijeka\u2019s urban lifestyle, particularly among young people. Apart from Kont itself, the artists also used the Rje\u010dina river as a source of inspiration\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>, said\u00a0<strong>Morana Matkovi\u0107<\/strong>, coordinator of the\u00a0<strong>Sweet &amp; Salt flagship of Rijeka 2020<\/strong>\u00a0at the presentation of the two installations, which were created as part of this very flagship.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32645\" src=\"https:\/\/rijeka2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195-248x165.jpg 248w, https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195-250x167.jpg 250w, https:\/\/ri2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_3195-420x280.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The installation was set up\u00a0<strong>on the bridge at Kont itself<\/strong>\u00a0where a streak of\u00a0<strong>strobe lighting was installed, 22.5 m in length<\/strong>\u00a0which was also programmed in such a way that the intensity of lighting changes relative to the speed of Rje\u010dina\u2019s flow. This achieves the effect of the lights pulsating in sync with the flow of the river. The installation was connected to the urban lighting infrastructure, which makes it turn on and off in sync with the system, and also makes the installation itself a part of urban lighting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The installation will remain in Rijeka until the end of 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The other installation by the same authors,\u00a0<strong>Imminence<\/strong>, was presented on the same day at the\u00a0<strong>Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art<\/strong>, in one of its yet unsettled parts, and\u00a0<strong>it is a sound installation which also includes the use of water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn their initial thoughts on the creation of this installation, among other things, the artists touched upon the climate change issue, hence the name of the installation. This is something that cannot be avoided, it is a hot topic on a global scale, and something that is actually happening to us all as we speak, which makes it all the more frightening\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>, explained\u00a0<strong>Sabina Salamon<\/strong>, the senior curator of MMCA.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MojaRijeka.hr - Otvorenje instalacije Time Slip na Kontu\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/C20OBPdVxYE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The installation consists of\u00a0<strong>a mesh of small glass tubes with water leaking through them<\/strong>. From her several dozen international exhibitions, some are particularly worth mentioning: Schering Stiftung Project Space in Berlin (2017), The Shanghai Biennale (2016), Peggy Guggenheim, Venice (2011), Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin (2012), Manifesta 7 (2008), The Biennale of Venice (2007) and The MoMA P.S.1. (2001).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tommi Gr\u00f6nlund and Petteri Nisunen<\/strong>\u00a0are an artistic duo from Helsinki, working together since the mid-1990s, after having completed their architectural studies.
