Volosko<\/a>\u00a0lies on the east coast of Istria, next to Opatija. One of the greatest Croatian scientists, geophysicist Andrija Mohorovi\u010di\u0107, was born here, after whom the Moho, the boundary between the Earth\u2019s crust and the mantle, got its name.
\nThe first structures rose around the small \u201cMandra\u0107\u201d harbour, and the thick, compact construction on the steep terrain creates picturesque spaces, curvy streets and steps between the simple houses with little terraces with cisterns and small gardens.
\nSummer is celebrated here by an artistic event of Mandra\u0107, taking place at the end of August for 32 years running and brings together around 150 painters and photographers, with the chimneys of Volosko houses being a recurring motif for a number of artists.
\nDuring the year, Volosko is inhabited by around one thousand people.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Dorta Jagi\u0107<\/h1>\n
Dorta Jagi\u0107 is a Croatian author, born in Sinj in 1974. She graduated in Philosophy and Religious Studies in Zagreb. Apart form poetry, she also writes and publishes short stories, travelogues, essays and dramatic texts.
\nSo far, she published book of poetry \u201cPlahta preko glave\u201d (\u201cSheet Over The Head\u201d) of 1999, \u201cTamagotchi mi je umro na rukama\u201d (\u201cMy Tamagotchi Died In My Arms\u201d) of 2001, \u201c\u0110avo i usidjelica\u201d (\u201cThe Devil and the Spinster\u201d) of 2003, \u201cKvadratura duge\u201d (\u201cSquare Footage of the Rainbow\u201d) of 2007, \u201cKau\u010d na trgu\u201d (\u201cCouch In the Square\u201d) of 2011, \u201cKafkin no\u017e\u201d (\u201cKafka\u2019s Knife\u201d) of 2015, and books of prose \u201cKi\u010dma\u201d (\u201cThe Spine\u201d) of 2009, \u201cS tetova\u017eom nisi sam\u201d (\u201cYou\u2019re Never Alone When You\u2019ve Got a Tattoo\u201d) of 2011, lexicon \u201cMali rje\u010dnik biblijskih \u017eena\u201d (\u201cA Small Dictionary of the Women of the Bible\u201d) of 2013, travelogues \u201cProlazi i pukotine\u201d (\u201cPassages and Cracks\u201d) of 2015 and essays \u201cVe\u0107e od ku\u0107e\u201d (\u201cBigger Than a House\u201d) of 2018. She was included in numerous domestic and foreign poetry anthologies, her poems were translated in over twenty foreign languages and she appeared at many reputable international poetry festivals.
\nApart from the domestic poetry award \u201cGoranovo prolje\u0107e\u201d in 1999 and last year\u2019s \u201cGoranov vijenac\u201d, she also won the international award \u201cBalkan Grand Prize for Poetry\u201d (2007) in Romania, as well as \u201cThe European Poet of Freedom Award\u201d in Poland (2014) for the poetry collection \u201cKau\u010d na trgu\u201d. The poetry collection \u201cKafkin no\u017e\u201d was nominated for the Janko Poli\u0107 Kamov award in 2015.
\nApart from a long-lasting educational and directorial work in student theatre collectives, she has been directing poetry workshops at various cultural institutions. She translates poetry from English and German. She has been collaborating for at least ten years as a contributor with the 3rd channel of the Croatian National Television. She is a freelance artist living in Zagreb.<\/p>\n
