Nowadays, the town is marked by a small medieval port \u201cmandra\u010d\u201d, Gothic and Renaissance churches and aristocratic palaces.<br \/>\nAs well as other island locations, the town is oriented towards tourism, and it is especially interesting that Cres contains an 8-kilometer pathway sharing the name of our programme stream, Lungomare.<br \/>\nThe town of Cres is inhabited by just under 3,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Damir Karaka\u0161<\/h1>\n<p>Damir Karaka\u0161 was born in 1967 in Pla\u0161\u0107ica by Brinje in the region of Lika. He studied Agronomy, Law and Journalism in Zagreb and spent a few years as a crime-page journalist for Ve\u010dernji list in Split. In 2001, he lived in Bordeaux, France, and from 2002 to 2007 in Paris, where he earns a living by playing the accordion. He studied French at the university of New Sorbonne in Paris, staged performance art and exhibited conceptual works. In his teenage years, he published caricatures and drawings in a number of ex-Yugoslavian journals, and won several caricature awards.<br \/>\nHe published the travelogue \u201cBosanci su dobri ljudi\u201d (\u201cBosnians Are Good People\u201d) in 1999, the novel \u201cKombetari\u201d in 2000, the collection of stories \u201cKino Lika\u201d (\u201cThe Lika Cinema\u201d) in 2001, the novel \u201cKako sam u\u0161ao u Europu\u201d (\u201cHow I Entered Europe\u201d) in 2004, the collection of stories \u201cEskimi\u201d (\u201cEskimos\u201d) in 2007, a novel \u201cSjajno mjesto za nesre\u0107u\u201d (\u201cA Great Place For Misfortune\u201d) in 2009, the collection of stories \u201cPukovnik Beethoven\u201d (\u201cColonel Beethoven\u201d) in 2012, the novel \u201cBlue Moon\u201d in 2014 and the novel \u201cSje\u0107anje \u0161ume\u201d (\u201cThe Memory of the Forest\u201d) in 2016.<br \/>\nThe director Dalibor Matani\u0107 made a film based on \u201cKino Lika\u201d, which won several domestic and international awards. The drama \u201cSkoro nikad ne zaklju\u010davamo\u201d (We almost never lock the door\u201d) as part of the play \u201cZagreba\u010dki pentagram\u201d (\u201cThe Zagreb Pentagram\u201d) was staged by the director Paolo Magelli in 2009. His novel \u201cSjajno mjesto za nesre\u0107u\u201d served as a basis for the play of the same name, staged by the director Dalibor Matani\u0107 at the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka in 2010. The play \u201cSnajper\u201d (\u201cThe Sniper\u201d) was staged by the director Franka Perkovi\u0107 in 2013 at the Zagreb Youth Theatre, as well as in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, by the director Ivica Buljan in 2013.<br \/>\nHis works have been translated into over a dozen languages.
