Bakar<\/h1>\n

The town of Bakar<\/a> is located about 10 kilometers east of Rijeka, at the bottom of the rocky bay of Bakar. The particular feature of one of the oldest towns in the northern Adriatic and the largest towns in Croatia at the turn between the 18<\/span>th <\/span><\/sup>and the 19<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> century are its narrow streets and squares bearing witness to a rich history. The process of industrialisation was introduced to Bakar in the 20<\/span>th <\/span><\/sup>century with a coke plant which brought environmental devastation to the entire bay area. It closed in 1995, and, nowadays, the existing shipyard is still used for construction and repairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Around 1,500 people inhabit the town of Bakar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nora Verde<\/h1>\n

Nora Verde (Antonela Maru\u0161i\u0107) is a Croatian author born in Dubrovnik in 1974. She is a graduate in Croatian language and literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

She started to pursue a literary career as a student, publishing her first poetry work, \u201cSezona bjegova\u201d (\u201cThe Season of Getaways\u201d) in 1994. She publishes her poetry in the following collections and journals: \u201cVijenac\u201d, \u201cHomo Volans\u201d, \u201cZadarska smotra\u201d, \u201cZadarski list\u201d and others. <\/span><\/p>\n

She is the author of a book of prose \u201cPosudi mi smajl\u201d (\u201cBorrow Me a Smile\u201d) which was published at the end of 2010. In September 2013, she published a novel entitled \u201cDo isteka zaliha\u201d (\u201cWhile Stocks Last\u201d), which was published in Slovenia in 2016 under the title \u201cDo razprodaje zalog\u201d. Her book of short stories \u201cO ljubavi, batinama i revoluciji\u201d (\u201cOn Love, Beatings and Revolution\u201d) was published in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her stories were published in the collection \u201cPristojan \u017eivot (lezbejske kratke pri\u010de s prostora Ex Yu)\u201c (\u201cA Decent Life \u2013 Lesbian Short Stories from Ex-Yugoslavia\u201d), in the book \u201cZagreb Noir\u201d in 2015 (Akashic Books, New York, 2016), and the collection \u201cBiber, kratke pri\u010de na temu pomirenja\u201d (\u201cPepper, Short Stories On Reconciliation\u201d) in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1998 to present, she works as a journalist and editor of daily and weekly newspapers and non-profit media in the areas of culture, music, television, civil society, human rights and independent media.<\/span><\/p>\n

She is a member of the editorial board of the Croatian feminist portal \u201cVox Feminae\u201d, the Croatian Writers Society and the Croatian Freelance Artists’ Association.<\/span><\/p>\n
